I'm Christina...
I received my Bachelors in Secondary Education (7-12) in 2010 and my Masters of Science in Literacy (5-12) by 2013.
I worked as a Teacher's Assistant from 2010-2013 while working on my Master's Degree. I found this to be beneficial as I was able to focus more deeply on my research in Literacy. In 2013 I became a teacher. I first taught 8th grade following a set curriculum, but since 2014, I taught 11th grade. My strength as a teacher was established as being one who could help students sharpen their writing skills. I thoroughly enjoy teaching the writing process step by step. Watching my students take ownership in their growth throughout the school year is one of my biggest joys in life. In 2021 I had a daughter, Maria! I took a temporary leave to be a stay at home mom, and since September 2023 I have been back in the classroom, now teaching 9th grade. I needed this break and time with her, and now I have never been happier to be a teacher, and a mom!
In addition to teaching, since 2017, I have been a Curriculum Specialist and Liason, traveling to 15+ schools every summer on Long Island in order to provide training, lessons, and offer support to teachers who are working with students to pass the NYS English Regent. I obtained this role based on my 100% NYS English Regent passing rate while teaching summer school in Long Island in 2016.
Since 2018, I have been an Adjunct Professor, teaching Writing Across The Curriculum to students obtaining their Master's degrees during Summer 1 annually at a CUNY. I work with adults who have switched careers later on in life and have decided to get their Special Education License. With my background in Literacy, and experience, I am able to help students implement writing strategies and differentiate lessons for all subject areas, including Social Studies, Science and Math.
Being in the classroom can be fun, exciting and challenging! Meeting and conversing with other teachers helps me reflect in my own practice, and keeps me excited to continue being a life long learner.
I am happy you're here!
